CAMPUS BEAT : COC @ 9 Entering New Heights

COC @ 9: Entering New Heights

College of Communication (COC) has been respected for its achievements and the students together with the help of the academe to cultivate a system of quality education against the high demands of modern times. Recently, the said college organized different events in fulfillment with their 9th Founding Anniversary. List of events, issues and people involved are as follows:

- Reactivation of COC Radio Station: The DZMC 98.3 is the radio station of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). Located in COC Library and cared by Professor Malaya A. Ygot togeher with the Department Broadcast Communication Chairperson, Professor Edna T. Bernabe. It aired in 2008 and went in-active up to present due to lack of license.

- The COC Uniform is also an issue here in this college. The COC Student Council and the former dean Professor Robert F. Soriano are the people behind this project. Due to the students' complaints regarding this uniform, the COC Student Council ordered that wearing uniform would not be complulsary. Other issues were dealt by the council.

- Gays Got Talent postponed. It is a talent show for the most talented and versatile gay student in PUP. According to the chairman of Teatro Komunikado (event organizer), Ms. Gallilea L. Roxas, in order to resolve the issue, the said event was postponed by December 2010. Internal Audit disapproved to sell tickets worth 60 pesos each.

- COC Ensemble search for a new adviser. After the ousting of their former adviser Professor Palad, the said organization cannot feel the presence of their new adviser Professor Clarita Ramos due to her hectic schedules. Professor Ramos cannot juggle her time since she is also the COC Viva Voce's adviser. Ms. Vernaliz Raymundo, COC Ensemble Vice Chairman plans to resolve the issue by requesting the good office of the dean for a new adviser that will be committed and be available at all times of need.

- COC joins Radyo Veritas' hands on project. The Polytechnic University of the Philippines, College of Communication is participating  in a “hands-on” Radio Broadcast Exposure Experience launched by DZRV Radyo Veritas 846. The project is entitled  “Veritas 846 Campus Hour” that shall be aired weekly every Saturday from 2:30-3:30 in the afternoon starting January 11, 2010. Students from the Department of Broadcast Communication, Journalism and Communication Research will have to audition to be a part of the radio program.

- COC's Septic Tank, getting worse. Students and faculty members have been complaining about the stinky smell of the septic tank. Faculty, students and people maintaining the cleanliness of the college were the ones who will be in charged for this project. Since no one seems to do anything about it, the students and faculty are bound to endure the stench coming from the septic tank, improving the scent inside the classroom in any way they can.

Excessive noise becomes COC's trademark. œ“Maingay. Magaling. May laman. Broadkom”. Three tagalog adjectives written on the statement shirt of broadcast Communication students. Noise has already been a part of College of Communication’s trademark in a positive and negative manner. COC Students were known to their active attributes that made them popular and respected here in the university.

- COC Sikat Award's 2010 made even better. Sikat Awards is the most awaited event of every COCians for it recognizes the most excellent works of the student in an “awards night” fashion. This year’s awards night will be much more glamorous than the last one for the organizers prepared exciting surprises for its attendees.

- COC Under new leadership. Dr. Robert F. Soriano is nearing the end of his term being the dean of COC . Now the time has come to choose the new leader that will uphold the college’s tag as “Certified Outstanding College” and take it’s excellence to new heights.

It is evident that COC is entering a completely higher realm of excellence, but to get there and stay there, the college needs to solve all the issues within their concern. To do that, the help and cooperation of every student and every faculty member is needed.
